The Devens Eco‑Efficiency Center (DEEC) is a nonprofit organization that advances sustainable business practices, supports waste‑reduction initiatives, and strengthens the economic and environmental performance of organizations throughout the Central Massachusetts region. Through its educational programs, technical assistance, and resource‑reuse initiatives—including its flagship program, The Great Exchange—the Center delivers measurable financial, environmental, and social benefits that help businesses and institutions lower operating costs, reduce waste, and improve efficiency.

Founded in 2007 to support the sustainable redevelopment goals of the Devens Reuse Plan, the DEEC was established to provide educational forums, sustainability optimization, as well as networking and partnering opportunities to support pollution prevention initiatives, material exchange and reuse, waste and toxics use reduction, water and energy efficiency, recycling, and purchasing of environmentally preferable products.

The DEEC serves as a regional and international model for eco‑industrial development and circular‑economy best practices. Its programs help businesses operate with reduced environmental impacts while enhancing economic competitiveness and fostering community collaboration.

The DEEC is a value-added service that supports the DEC’s charter to facilitate the sustainable redevelopment of Devens and the surrounding communities. The collaboration and partnership between these two organizations has contributed to numerous awards and international recognition of Devens as a model for successful base closure and sustainable industrial redevelopment.
